Embrace a centuries-old tradition when you join Sea & Board Sports Hawaii for Oahu outrigger canoe lessons on the North Shore of Oahu.
The History of Outrigger Canoeing
With our Oahu Outrigger canoeing lessons, we offer visitors a glimpse into the vibrant past and present of island culture. Both an art and a sport, Outrigger canoeing is a living piece of Hawaiian and Polynesian history. Before GPS, before surfboards, before cruise ships and catamarans—there were outriggers. This is how the Polynesians found their way across the Pacific, navigating between islands using only the stars.
And Now?
Modern day Hawaii is seeing the resurgence of Outrigger canoeing, as it regains popularity not just as a sport, but as a way to connect—with the ocean, with others, and with a piece of Hawaiian culture that’s as exhilarating as it is timeless.
Whether you’re downwind racing, canoe wave-surfing, or simply flat-water cruising, you’re sure to enjoy the freedom and fun of this ancient sport.
